The one and only Sauternes Premier Cru Supérieur, Château d’Yquem produces an almost unbelievably concentrated sweet wine in almost unbelievably small quantities. Initially reserved in style, it develops a myriad of complex nuances over time. The estate’s warm, dry, pebbly topsoil accumulates heat, leading to great ripeness, while the clay-rich subsoil ensures a steady supply of water for the vines, even during dry periods. The 113 hectares of vines comprise some 75% Sémillon and 25% Sauvignon Blanc. The estate is nestled among all of Sauterne’s greatest properties, in an area where noble Botrytis weaves its magic to create such spellbinding essence.
