Antique copper grain measure is from England. Grain measures were used to measure ale or beer in a pub. This one has several distinctive qualities. It has a significant stamp inside the lip. This was put there by authorities certifying the amount of ale held by the measure. The seam on the measure is dovetail which indicates the early age. Pub keepers would sometimes push the bottom of the measure in so it would actually hold less ale., & they could charge for the full amount. This bottom looks like it has been pushed in. This could have been done after it received the seal verifying the measurement. The measure also looks like it has a named engraved on it. These measures make wonderful decorative additions to your home – beautiful holding flowers. The condition is very good, but there are some small dents consistent with the age.
