William Larue Weller Bourbon – Bot.2014 – 75cl / 70.1%

75cl / 70.1% – The 2014 release of the William Larue Weller, the wheated expression in Buffalo Trace’s highly regarded annual Antique Collection bottlings. The 2011 release came second in the running for “World Whisky of the Year” in Jim Murray’s 2013 Bible.

Nose: Richly sweet and complex. Maple sugar, buttery toffee, fresh cinnamon and sugar donuts. Fruitier notes of sticky figs and dark berry jam are joined by stone ground wheat crackers and vanilla bean. Followed with holiday fruit cake, and oak chips.Mouth: More maple sugar with a little cherry cough syrup sweetness. Lots of vanilla, cinnamon almonds and salted pecans. Wonderfully balanced by wood and spice notes; tannic, yet smooth oak, cinnamon stick, white pepper, a bit of clove, and a trace of star anise.Finish: Wonderfully lingering tannins, macerated darks fruits, toasted pecans, and spice. Slightly bitter and quite mouthwatering.
