Puntido Gran Reserva 2007, Viñedos de Páganos

A hugely distinctive, well-matured wine, this has bold flavours of espresso, bitter chocolate and freshly laid road tar, leading to plum and pomegranate fruit character. Full and rich on the palate, with mature tannins, complex balsamic flavours and fresh acidity. Defined by its structure and complexity, it intrigues with subtle nuances and remains balanced and polished through to the spicy finish. This comes exclusively from the 25 hectare El Puntido, at 600 metres elevation with calcareous clay topsoil over a deep sandy and rocky sub-soil, which was planted in 1975. High-density vine planting enhances fruit quality (at the expense of yield). Cultivated in an environmentally integrated manner.
