They are made out of gourds that come after the calabash fruit is carved out, leaving the shell which is hung to dry. The resulting vessel is known as a jicara which is the Spanish word for cup. The wide mouth enables the robust spirit of mezcal to open up allowing the beautiful layers of flavor & aroma to unfold & shine. Each cup is unique in size & design. They are approximately 3 inches in diameter & 1.5 inches tall & come with a braided natural fiber base. They will hold 2-3 ounces of liquid depending on size Please note that due to the porous nature of the jicara, they will drink with you! The flavors & aromas from the mezcal will be absorbed into each cup since they are made from natural plant fiber. For this reason it is recommended that they only be rinsed in warm water rather than using dish soap to clean them.
