Le Credo, Côtes du Roussillon Villages 2016, Domaine Cazes

Credo is the most impressive Roussillon wine we have ever tasted. It is utterly awesome, with an impenetrable, black appearance and seriously concentrated aroma; offering a marvellous mix of damson jam, black liquorice, medjoul date, air-dried saucisson, wet clay and black olive. As it sits in the glass, the aromas intensify and become even more complex, as elderberry, dark chocolate and spicy, peppery nuances emerge. In the mouth, the wine is succulent, immediate and delicious: full of fruit, with supple tannins and savoury complexity. While oak aromas and flavours are discernible, the wine is in no way over-oaked, but instead beautifully harmonious and balanced. It is fantastically seamless, with no gaps, and utterly irresistible to enjoy straight away or over the next 5-6 years. Carpe diem! A biodynamic wine made from the fruit of Carignan vines planted in the year 1900; balanced by fruit from carefully-selected plots of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre.
