This is a really good white ceramic Sandeman’s Port Decanter by Wedgwood of Etruria & Barlston made in 1971. The Sandeman’s Don was seen in television advertisements throughout the 1960s & 70s as an elusive character who was constantly being chased, through castles, old streets, & through stately homes, etc. When there was a danger of him being caught, he used to disappear leaving only his black cloak, his hat, & a bottle of Sandeman Port. This image was the mainstay of the brand & the ‘Sandeman Don’ as he was known, was a great branding character. The decanter was made by Wedgwood here in the UK, the back stamp suggests, in 1971. The decanter is in great condition, with no chips or crazing to the glaze. The lid was held on to the decanter with sellotape when we bought it to deter people from pulling it out of the bottleneck, we have since removed the tape. Some Sandeman Dons are clutching a bottle with a gold lid, some are holding one with a red lid, & this Don has a simple glass in his hand. This would look super cool on a bar shelf in a home bar or man cave. It would also make a great gift for a Port drinker. ##################################### We love all our vintage bar items & wrap & pack them carefully for a safe journey to their new home using recyclable materials including 100% biodegradable bubble wrap.
