Experience an ancient tradition with this Blacksmith Taster at the Oldfield Forge. A specialist forge in the heart of Herefordshire, The Academy is dedicated to teaching you time-honoured blacksmithing techniques. Over your 3 hour experience, you’ll follow one of the Forge’s expert team members who’ll get you fully prepared for forging. You’ll be able to draw inspiration from the amazing work on display in the showroom, before you set about creating your own bespoke piece. At the end of the day you can take home your ironwork, crafted by your own two hands. After working up a thirst, you can down tools and take lunch before making your way over to nearby Hillside Brewery or Westons Cider. So, whether you’re a beer or cider lover, there’s a tour that’s right for your taste. What’s Included? Upon arrival at The Oldfield Forge, you’ll be welcomed by one of their resident blacksmiths before taking a tour of the showroom and learning more about how a working forge operates. Your blacksmith with then help you to forge your very own bespoke piece, which you’ll be able to take home at the end of your session. You’ll take a quick lunch break (feel free to use the facilities but lunch is not included in the voucher price) before heading over to your pre-booked choice of beer or cider tasting tour at either the Hillside Brewery or Westons Cider. Participant guidelines Minimum age: 18 The Oldfield Forge require a Health & Safety form to be completed by all participants attending the forging experiences. This form will be sent to you upon confirmation of your booking with all the details you will require for the day The experience content, equipment used and restrictions may vary Availability This experience is available on selected dates throughout the year. We recommend you book at least four weeks in advance to ensure that dates are available. All bookings are subject to availability. The Forging esperience last approximately 3 hours. Please arrive at the forge at least 10 minutes prior to your booking time – this allows time to introduce you to your blacksmith and run through the Health & Safety requirements. Your tour and tasting session will last approximately 1 to 2 hours. Please note: in the event that the two parts of the experience cannot be taken on the same day you will be offered separate dates. What should I wear? Oldfield Forge Academy want to ensure that fun and enjoyment is had by all. However, remember that a workshop can be a dangerous place. Appropriate clothing and footwear must be worn as otherwise you will not be permitted to enter the workshop. We recommend strong boots or trainers along with trousers, tee-shirt & jumper. No loose clothing or jewellery should be worn. Additional information Oldfield Forge also offer picnic facilities and the use of their Scandinavian Lodge and Shepherd’s Hut, both sited in the Oldfield Forge wood, so that you can enjoy the pleasure of being in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside. The Scandinavian Lodge is perfect for large groups to sit in and can comfortably accommodate up to 20 people. The Shepherd’s Hut is full of old rustic charm and bygone tools. Enjoy lunch and take in the beautiful rural surroundings of the location. For larger group bookings they can offer a buffet/picnic (at an additional cost) or alternatively, if you wish to sit down in one of the local pubs, they are happy to send you recommendations – just let them know your preferences. What about insurance? The centres contracted with us hold public liability insurance. We also hold contingency liability cover. You will not be liable for accidental damage to equipment, except where damage has been caused as a result of recklessness or wilful negligence. A cancellation indemnity, subject to terms, is included with every voucher. How it works All you have to do is pay for the experience you wish to purchase and we’ll send a voucher and booking information to you or directly to the recipient, then you just need to check the info and book your experience. If/when you are within 3 months of the voucher expiry date and there are still restrictions in place, Virgin Experience Days are offering free extensions to allow the customer to use at a later date.
