Established in 1827 by George Ballantine, the blend is comprised of 50 single malts, and four grain whiskies, but draws its flavour profile primarily from Speysiders Glenburgie and Miltonduff. The 21 year old sits in the middle of the core aged range of Ballantine’s expressions and was introduced in 1993. The mature 21 year old is housed in an opulent blue ceramic decanter produced by the famous Wade Ceramics who have operated from the UK pottery capital of Stoke-on-Trent since 1867. One to savour for a special occasion the blend is floral on the nose and bottled at 43% ABV for a smooth yet powerful finish. Nose: Warming and intense sherry, woody aromas- oak and sap. Notes of sweet fruitiness, strawberries and sugar, subtle floral elements are present in the background. Gentle notes of citrus and smoke. Palate: Powerful, rich and thick. Sweetness is found through notes of toffee and caramel complimenting fruity oranges and fresh berries. Spicy cloves and nutmeg, balanced with honey. Notes of smoke and oak remain present. Finish: A long finish, creamy with a sweetness of berries contrasted with warm spices.
