The pinnacle of the Jose Cuervo range of Tequilas, the yearly Reserva de la Familia is a long-aged extra añejo, showing off the skill of the distillery. Every year, the box is decorated by an artist, and 2017’s features the work of Abraham Cruzvillegas as part of his work Tequioh, a multi-media collection of works that dissect the creation of Tequila. Whilst many if not all of us (of a drinking age) will have heard and seen Tequila, I suspect few will realise that its creation and production is as closely guarded as that of the likes of Champagne- ie it must be made and bottled within a restricted area within Mexico where the Agave plant is mostly planted.
